Internal Component Preremoval Steps (Input/Output Cabinet)

Usage:

UPS 250 APZ

------ WARNING! ------

When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

  • Make sure the unit is either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE.

  • Remove all fuses.

  • Make sure the generator engine is stopped.

  • Make sure all batteries are disconnected.

  • Make sure all capacitors are discharged.

  • Make sure residual voltage in the rotor, stator and the generator is discharged.

Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death.


  • Brake the flywheel.

    Refer to Steps 1a through 1g.

      The "Enter User Name / Password" dialog box

    1. Connect a PC to the parallel cabinet interface board that is located in the system cabinet.

    2. Rotate the switch on the parallel interface cabinet to the corresponding MMU.

    3. Run the UPSView software by double clicking the UPSView icon on your PC desktop.

    4. Select the "Enter Password" menu option in order to view the "Enter User Name" and the "Password" dialog box.

    5. Enter a valid "User Name". Enter a valid "Password". Refer to Illustration 2.

    6. Depress the "<Ctrl><X>" keys in order to bring the flywheel to zero RPM.

    7. The system will prompt you to confirm the option. Depress "<Y>" key.

      Note: Repeat this procedure for each flywheel.

      Note: The procedure is only available once during a 24 hour period.

      Note: A minimum of 15 minutes is required to lower the speed of the flywheel to 0 RPM.

  • Verify that breaking is complete.

    Note: The flywheel must be at zero RPM in order to continue.

  • Turn the key switch on the system cabinet to the BYPASS position. Turn the key switch on all multiple module units (MMS) to the BYPASS position.

  • Verify that the UPS is in the bypass mode by pressing the "Home" soft key on the user interface panel. Observe the status line on the LCD.


    NOTICE

    If the system does not enter the bypass mode, Do Not Proceed with the procedure. Equipment damage or load interruption may occur. Contact your technical communicator.


    ------ WARNING! ------

    High voltage may be present. The power source must be disconnected before working on the equipment. Failure to disconnect the power source could result in injury or death. Verify that the equipment is not energized before performing any maintenance. This work must be performed by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures.


  • Perform the pre-shutdown of the MMS by using the "<Ctrl><X>" command.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

    Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.


  • Perform system shutdown of the MMS.

    1. Open the output isolation switch that is located on the I/O cabinet.

    2. Open the output isolation switches that are located in the system cabinet for the appropriate MMU.

    3. Open the input isolation switches that are located in the system cabinet for the appropriate MMU.

    4. Remove facility power from the system input bus.

    5. Open the maintenance bypass switch that is located in the I/O cabinet.

    6. Remove facility power from the bypass input bus.

  • De-energize the UPS.

  • Allow the capacitor to purge for approximately 5 minutes.

  • Unlock the door and open the door. Open the door of the cabinet by using a hex key on the latches on the right side of the door.
