The new piston has a straight fluted bore and the new wrist pin is smaller in diameter. This change makes the joint between the piston and the pin stronger at initial start-up.

The new piston pin can be identified by the part number on the end of the piston pin. The new piston pin can be also identified by an identification groove on either end of the piston pin.

Note: The diameter of the eye in the connecting rod has not changed.

3500 Engines with Mechanical Unit Injectors (MUI) and 3500 Engines with Electronic Unit Injectors (EUI)

The former 233-2430 Piston, and the former 197-0560 Piston Pin must be kept together as a matched set when you reuse the parts at an overhaul. If the piston or the piston pin need to be replaced, then both parts need to be replaced.

The 197-0560 Piston Pin cannot be used with the new pistons. The new 263-8955 Piston Pin cannot be used with the former piston.

The 282-0645 Piston and Rod Gp replaces the 223-6362 Piston and Rod Gp .

Note: The new 282-0645 Piston and Rod Gp and the former 223-6362 Piston and Rod Gp can be used in different cylinders within the same engine.

3500B Engines

The former 233-2431 Piston, and the former 197-0560 Piston Pin must be kept together as a matched set when you reuse the parts at an overhaul. If the piston or the piston pin need to be replaced, then both parts need to be replaced.

Note: The new 281-6139 Piston and Rod Gp and the former 223-6363 Piston and Rod Gp can be used in different cylinders within the same engine.
