Start By:

  1. Remove the main hydraulic pump and gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Main Hydraulic Pump and Gear Pump (Pilot) - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (1) in order to separate gear pump (2) from piston pump (3) .

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Remove coupling (4) and O-ring seals (5) from piston pump (3) .

  1. Remove plug (8) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) and cover (6) .

  1. Remove bearing (9), O-ring seal (10), and plug (11) from cover (6) .

  1. Remove gasket (12), spring (13), port plate (14), and plug (15) from housing (16) .

  1. Remove barrel assembly (17) and O-ring seal (18) .

  1. Remove pistons (19) and plate (20) from barrel assembly (17) .

  1. Remove bearing (21) .

  1. Use a suitable press in order to compress the spring in barrel assembly (17) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (25) .

  1. Remove spring (24) and retainer (23) .

  1. Remove spring retainer (26) and swashplate (27) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (28) .

  1. Remove shaft assembly (29) .

  1. Use a suitable press to remove bearing (30) from shaft (29) .

  1. Remove slug (31), slug (32), balls (33), and seal (34) .
