Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove oil drain plug (5) and the O-ring seal. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".
- Remove bolts (3) and bolts (4) from engine oil pan (6).
- Remove engine oil pan (6) and remove gasket (1) from the cylinder block.
- If necessary, remove nut (2), the seal, and the tube assembly from the engine oil pan.

- Clean all surfaces thoroughly. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

Illustration 2 g00541498 - When the gasket for the oil pan is removed, damage may occur to the existing seal in the groove of the bridge. If the seal is damaged, apply a sufficient amount of Tooling (B) in order to fill the groove. The groove must be completely filled.
- Apply Tooling (B) to the joint between the cylinder block and the front housing.

- Position gasket (1) and engine oil pan (6) in the correct position on the cylinder block. Install bolts (4) in order to secure engine oil pan (6) to the cylinder block. Tighten bolts (4) finger tight.
Note: New bolts have sealant to the first
13 mm (0.5 inch) of the threads. In order to reuse the old bolts, clean the old sealant from the bolts and apply Tooling (C) to the bolts. - Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolts (3). Tighten bolts (4) in Hole (Y) to a torque of
22 N·m (16 lb ft) . - Tighten remaining bolts (3) to a torque of
22 N·m (16 lb ft) . - Install the O-ring seal and drain plug (5). Tighten drain plug (5) to a torque of
34 N·m (25 lb ft) . - If necessary, install the seal and the tube assembly in the engine oil pan. Tighten nut (2) to a torque of
18 N·m (13 lb ft) . - Fill the engine to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
