Air Compressor - Remove and Install

Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the air pressure from the air tank.

  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations".

  1. Remove bracket (6) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1), (2), (3), and (7) from air compressor (5) .

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to air compressor (5). The weight of air compressor (5) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (4) .

  1. Remove air compressor (5) and the gasket.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to air compressor (5). The weight of air compressor (5) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

  1. Position the gasket and air compressor (5) in the front housing.

  1. Install bolts (4) .

  1. Connect hose assemblies (1), (2), (3), and (7) to air compressor (5) .

  1. Install bracket (6). Tighten the bolts for bracket (6) by using the following procedure:

    1. Tighten the bolts finger tight.

    1. Tighten the bolts to the standard torque.

  1. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations".
