  • Description of Change: New Product Link systems are now being introduced. The PL121SR and the PL321SR replace the PL151 and the PL201. The PL151 and the PL201 will no longer be available. The new Product Link PL121SR and PL300 modules follow a new approach by separating the radio technology (PL121SR) from the computing technology (PL300 ECM) that connects into the electronic systems that are on board Caterpillar machines.

By separating the radio technology from the computing technology, the PL121SR can be purchased alone to meet basic asset management requirements. For machines capable of providing additional machine health and productivity information, the PL300 ECM can be installed. The PL300 ECM can gather the additional machine health and productivity information and then pass that information into the radio (PL121SR) for transmission back to the EquipmentManager web application.

Note: The PL121SR and the PL300 ECM combine to make up the PL321SR.The features and benefits of the PL121SR and the PL321SR are shown in Table 1 and Table 2.

    Table 1
Features and Benefits of the PL121SR and the PL321SR
    Features     Benefits
Service Meter Hour Updates     - Eliminates trips/calls for SMU readings
    - Allows effective maintenance scheduling
    - Facilitates accurate and efficient billing
    - Delivers daily SMU update to DBS(i)
Equipment Location     - Allows for the efficient use of PM trucks, non-routine service calls, and other sales/service functions
    - Determines travel and mileage for scheduling and billing through PC mapping software
    - Reduces transportation costs related to locating a machine and picking up/delivering rental machines
Integration with Internet or Optional PC Mapping Software     - Allows for the viewing of machine locations via the Internet or through the use of optional Street Atlas® or Map Point® mapping software
"Product Watch" Monitoring     - Inclusive, exclusive, and time-based monitoring provides the capability to protect assets against use at unauthorized times and locations
    - Monitors rental returns
Email/Pager Alerts     - Event reactions notify a designated person when machine events create Product Watch or Digital Switch alarms

    Table 2
    PL321SR Additional Features and Benefits
    Features     Benefits
Connectivity with On-Board Systems (1)     - Facilitates proactive maintenance (plans repairs to decrease downtime and lower costs)
    - Sends alert notifications on key events e.g. engine overspeed)
    - Decreases number of trips to complete the repair by providing information prior to making the service call
    - Assists in reducing unplanned failures and/or repairs
    - Provides logged events fault code reports
Digital Switch to Ground Inputs (2)     - Helps monitor machine conditions with four digital switch inputs (On/Off)
Fuel Consumption     - Monitors fuel consumption on machines that provide the fuel information from the engine ECM
( 1 ) The PL300 ECM communicates on the Datalink protocol with the on-board ECM(s).
( 2 ) Will not work with Analog sensors.

Adaptable To: The PL121SR and the PL321SR are adaptable to all machines (Product Link Ready Machines and Non-Product Link Ready Machines).

    Upgrading from Previous Models

    PL151

If you need to replace the former model PL151 Radio System, the PL121SR Radio provides basically the same functionary. The PL121SR Radio provides service meter hours and location reporting but does not offer digital inputs as did the PL151. To obtain this capability, a PL321SR is required. The PL151 is still a functional model but it has been discontinued. When purchasing a new PL121SR, a new antenna will also need to be purchased. This is because the GPS antenna connectors are different on the PL151 and the PL121SR.

    PL201

To obtain the same functionality as the former PL201, you may purchase the PL321SR. The PL321SR includes the PL121SR Radio, the PL300 ECM, all mounting hardware, and the wiring harness for the ECM. The PL201 is still a functional model but it has been discontinued. As with the PL151, you must purchase a new antenna with the PL121SR.

    PL121SR

The PL121SR Radio can be upgraded by adding the PL300 ECM. By doing this, you will obtain the functionality previously offered by the PL201.
