This publication contains the information for the installation of a 238-4569 Duct Gp-Air for the rear window. This supplemental product support literature should be used with the appropriate Service Manual and the appropriate Parts Manual that is available for this standard machine.

Do not perform any procedure and do not order parts that are outlined in this publication until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

Air Conditioning Evaporator Unit - Remove

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Evacuate the refrigerant from the air conditioning system. Refer to Specifications Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting Air Conditioning and Heating R134a All Caterpillar Machines, SENR5664, "Refrigerant System - Evacuate".

  1. Remove the air conditioning evaporator unit from the cab.

    (1) 186-8217 Vent-Fresh Air

    (2) 8T-4138 Bolt

    (3) 9X-8256 Washer

    (4) 3B-4504 Lockwasher

  1. Remove the lid from the air conditioning evaporator unit.

  1. Remove 186-8217 Vent-Fresh Air (1) from the air conditioning evaporator unit.

  1. Remove 8T-4138 Bolt (2), 9X-8256 Washer (3) and 3B-4504 Lockwasher (4) .

    (5) 238-4568 Duct

    (A) 76 mm (2.99 inch)

    (B) 169 mm (6.65 inch)

  1. Install 238-4568 Duct (5) in position on the air conditioning evaporator unit. Install 8T-4138 Bolt (2), 9X-8256 Washer (3) and 3B-4504 Lockwasher (4) removed in Step 3.

    Note: Care must be taken to ensure the coils are not damaged in Step 5.

  1. Use hole in 238-4568 Duct (5) as a jig to drill a 8 mm (0.31 inch) hole through the base of the air conditioning evaporator unit.

    (9) 9C-9313 Button

  1. Install 4M-5281 Bolt (6), 8T-4205 Hard Washers (7) and 6V-8185 Nut (8) .

  1. Install two 9C-9313 Buttons (9) .

  1. Install the lid to the air conditioning evaporator unit.

  1. Install the air conditioning evaporator unit in the cab.

  1. Charge the air conditioning system with refrigerant. Refer to Specifications Systems Operation Testing and AdjustingAir Conditioning and Heating R134a All Caterpillar Machines, SENR5664, "Refrigerant System - Charge".
