Module Overview
The Product Link PL102C module is a cellular based communication device that transmits information regarding the machine back to Caterpillar. The unit contains a Global Positioning System (GPS) as well as a satellite communications transceiver. The Product Link module is initially setup by using a laptop computer that has EERE5000 Caterpillar Service Tool software for the Product Link PL102C module installed. The Product Link PL102C system is capable of two-way communication between the machine and a remote user. The user can be a dealer or a customer. A user can request updated information from a machine at any time. The reporting schedule for the Product Link PL102C module can be changed remotely through Equipment Manager.
Module Inputs
The Product Link PL102C module receives key switch ON/OFF status input from the key switch. The module receives data from the cellular network through the cellular antenna. The module receives location information from the Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna. The module receives engine running status indication from either the Alternator R-Term connection or a connection to a steady state source of DC voltage.
The PL102C module receives commands from the Caterpillar Service Tool for the PL102C module software through the serial service connector. The PL102C module receives commands from the Caterpillar Equipment Manager system.
Module Output
The Product Link PL102C module sends the GPS and R-Term data to the Caterpillar Equipment Manager over the cellular network.
Antennas
The Product Link PL102C system receives GPS data through a remote mounted GPS antenna. The Product Link PL102C also sends and receives cellular data through a remote mounted cellular antenna.
The GPS location is then calculated and sent along with service meter hours. The GPS and service meter hours are sent to Caterpillar through the cellular networks using the cellular antenna. The Product Link PL102C system receives commands through the cellular network from the Back Office system.
There are four antennas for the Product Link PL102C that are available.

Stealth GPS/cellular Combination Antenna |
The stealth antenna is a GPS/cellular combination antenna. The stealth antenna is used for GPS reception and also for cellular transmission and reception. The stealth antenna can be mounted with tie wraps or with an adhesive strip that has adhesive on both sides (not included).
NOTICE |
---|
The stealth antenna is not a sealed unit. This antenna must be placed in a location that protects the antenna from any exposure to moisture, rain or debris. |
