THIS DOCUMENT IS A SUPPLEMENT TO THE MACHINE'S OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL. THIS DOCUMENT MUST BE PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE MACHINE'S OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL.

This document provides information about the operation of Product Link PL-102C.

Safety Section

Operation of the machine and the maintenance of the machine must not occur unless the instructions and warnings in the machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual have been read and the instructions and the warnings are understood. The contents of this document must be understood before a machine that is equipped with the Product Link PL-102C is operated.

This machine is equipped with a Caterpillar Product Link communication device which must be deactivated within 2.5 m (8 ft) of a blast zone. Failure to do so could result in serious injury or death.

If the machine is required to work within 2.5 m (8 ft.) of a blast area, then the operator must disable the Product Link PL-102C. One of the following are suggested methods in order to disable the Product Link PL-102C:

  • Disconnect the Product Link PL-102C module from the power source by disconnecting the wiring harness at the Product Link module.

  • Temporarily remove the Product Link PL-102C module from the machine.

  • Install a switch in the machine cab that will allow the Product Link PL-102C module to be turned off.

Consult your Caterpillar Dealer if there are any questions.

Operation Section

The Product Link PL-102C is a cellular based communication device that is capable of two-way communication between the machine and a remote user. The remote user can be a dealer or a customer. At any time, a user can request updated information from a machine such as hours of use or the location of the machine. The Product Link PL-102C contains a global positioning system. Also, the system parameters for Product Link PL-102C can be changed. Data is transmitted from the machine to a cellular network. The data is transmitted to the service provider. The service provider transmits the data to Caterpillar, Inc.. The data can then be sent to a Caterpillar dealer and to the customer.
