( 2 ) The 239-5509 Ring (Polypropylene) contains 420 facing rings in order to service two link assemblies.
( 3 ) The post turn seal for the D10 Track-Type Tractor will not be available until the third quarter of 2004.
( 4 ) The post turn seal can be used with both former 8E-3448 Track Link Assembly and 6Y-1691 Track Link Assembly when the new 235-2213 Thrust Ring is used.
( 5 ) The 242-3466 Lubricant is for the five gallon of 75W synthetic track track lubricant.

Changes to Components

Master Links

The master links that are used in the new 239-0673 Track Link Assembly and 239-0674 Track Link Assembly for the D10 Track-Type Tractor now match the changes to the geometry that were made to the master links for the D11R and D11N Track-Type Tractors. This change in geometry causes load distribution to occur more evenly between the teeth of the master link. As a result, there is improved resistance to the cracking of the master link. For additional information, refer to Service Magazine, SEPD0674, "New Master Links Improve Reliability and Durability".

Seal Assembly

The seal assemblies that are used in the new 239-0673 Track Link Assembly and 239-0674 Track Link Assembly contain seal lips that are made from a new material. This new material has the following characteristics: stronger, more resistant to wear, resistant to the effects of water and resistant to the effects of aging. This material has demonstrated an improvement in seal system wear in both testing in the lab and in the field.

Post Turn Seal

A post turn seal will be available for the new 239-0673 Track Link Assembly and 239-0674 Track Link Assembly for the D10 Track-Type Tractor for use at the first service interval. Post turn seals that are used at the service interval offer a new seal lip that is used against the unworn surface of the bushing end face. Post turn seals should be used on bushings with 50 percent or less grooving of the bushing end. Post turn seals are currently used on D11R and D11N Track-Type Tractors. This usage can be referenced in IRM UC03-13 or Service Magazine, SEPD0702, "New Post Turn Seals Are Now Available".

Note: The post turn seal for the D10 Track-Type Tractor will not be available until the third quarter of 2004.

Thrust Ring

The thrust ring that is used in the new 239-0673 Track Link Assembly and 239-0674 Track Link Assembly has a smaller outer diameter than the thrust ring that is used in the former link assemblies. This increases the area available for the use of the post turn seal.

A new ring set is available that has 420 polypropylene facing material coatings. This ring set is used on the new thrust rings that have a smaller diameter. Also, the new thrust ring assembly consists of the new 235-2213 Thrust Ring with the polypropylene facing material.

Lubrication

The new 239-0673 Track Link Assembly and 239-0674 Track Link Assembly are filled with synthetic 75W-140 oil. This oil has demonstrated improved wear of the internal joint and improved wear characteristics of the seal over the standard 80W-90 oil.

This oil is available through Caterpillar parts by the following part numbers:
