Amount of the Caterpillar ELC Extender by Cooling System Capacity     | |
Cooling System Capacity     | Recommended Amount of Caterpillar Extender     |
164 to 242 L (43 to 64 US gal)     |
4.40 L (148 fl oz)     |
When a Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is used, an extender must be added to the cooling system. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for the proper service interval. The amount of extender is determined by the cooling system capacity.
For additional information about adding an extender, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant Recommendations" or consult your Caterpillar dealer.
Use a 8T-5296 Coolant Test Kit to check the concentration of the coolant.

NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Add coolant in order to maintain the coolant level at the pin (2) that is located internally in the filler tube (1). The pin (2) is the FULL position. Coolant will overflow if you add coolant above FULL.

- Maintain the coolant level between the top of the sight glass and the bottom of the filler tube. If you need to add coolant daily, check the cooling system for leaks.
- Inspect the radiator cap and the radiator cap seal for debris, for foreign material, or for damage. Clean the radiator cap with a clean cloth. Replace the radiator cap if the radiator cap is damaged.
- Install the radiator cap.
