Slide the Laser Receivers (6) on to the Adapter Blocks that are mounted to the Electronic Masts (5) .
Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1584, "Installation of the AccuGrade Electronic Components" for more information.
To prevent possible personal injury during installation and removal of the laser receivers, lower the mast to the minimum height and use an approved access system to reach the mounting locations of the laser receivers at the top of the mast. Do not climb on the blade. |

Power Up
Place the switch (power/setup) on the Display to the ON position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Display" for more information about using the switches and keys on the Display.
The Display checks that all the system components are present and that the components are responding correctly. If the Display finds any problems, the liquid crystal display (LCD) indicates the location of the problem. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Display Description" for more information.
The grade indicators that are located on the Display will illuminate. This shows that the grade indicators are functioning.
When the AccuGrade - Laser System software is loaded, and the system checks are finished, the saved settings appear on the Display.
A screen that is similar to illustration 5 is visible when you are in Linked Elevation Operating Mode.

Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Display Description" for more information on the icons that are on the Display.
The following sections explain the procedure that is used in order to benchmark the AccuGrade - Laser System while using the Linked Elevation Operating Mode. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Setting the Reference Elevation" in order to use the AccuGrade - Laser System and set up the AccuGrade - Laser System in the Independent Elevation Operating Mode.
Benchmark the System In Linked Elevation Mode
To make sure that the machine is grading to the correct elevation, the machine's cutting edge must be benched over a point that represents a finished grade. This point is known as a benchmark.
Using a Level Laser
- Level the machine's cutting edge.
- Place the right blade tip on the benchmark.
Make sure that you do not move the benchmark. If necessary, put the blade tip next to the benchmark.
- Press the right reset key when the right tip is on the benchmark. Both masts will begin to move automatically in order to search for the laser beam. The search for the laser beam will stop when the right laser receiver is on-grade.
This process is called auto benching.
Note: In order to obtain the best results, the cutting edge must be parallel to the laser beam.
The following illustration shows the way the machine's cutting edge must be positioned for proper benching with a level laser.

Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Setting the Reference Elevation" in order to benchmark the machine's cutting edge with a sloping laser.
Set the Reference Elevation
The elevation of the benchmark must be entered into the Display. In order to enter the elevation, proceed through the following steps.
- Place the "power/setup" button on the Display to the Information position. The screen in Illustration 7 appears. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Display" for more information on the buttons and switches on the Display.

- To edit the "Reference Elevation" value, perform the procedure that is listed below.
- Press the "OK" key and the "ESC" key simultaneously in order to reset the "Reference Elevation" to 0.000.
- Press the "Cursor scroll" key in order to move the cursor to the right and in order to highlight the digit on the Display that you want to change.
- Toggle either of the "Menu scroll" buttons in the up direction in order to increase the value.
- Toggle either of the "Menu scroll" buttons in the down direction in order to decrease the value.
- Toggle either of the "Menu scroll" buttons in the up direction or to the down direction in order to change the sign from positive to negative. The cursor must be to the left of the number that was entered.
- Press the "OK" key in order to save the setting and return to the "Configuration" menu.
- Turn the "power/setup" button to the ON position to return to the "Control" mode.
Leveling or Grading the Site
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Once the system is placed in automatic mode, blade movement may occur. Ensure that all personnel are clear of the blade before you place the system in automatic mode. Personal injury or death from crushing could occur. |
Proceed through the following steps in order to level or grade the site.
- Move the machine to the work area.
If the blade is at ground level and the grade indicators show a solid high light, enter an elevation offset until flashing lights are shown on the grade indicators. This stops the blade from driving into the ground when automatics are used.
- To enter an elevation offset to the reference elevation, toggle either of the "Menu Scroll" buttons or the "elevation offset" button on the remote button assembly.
- Press the "Auto" button on the joystick control in order to change from "Man" to "Auto". This causes the blade to automatically move to grade. The green grade indicators on the Display indicate that you are on-grade.
- Grade a small area and check that the blade is correctly cutting to grade until the following conditions are met:
- There is no elevation offset applied to the reference elevation
- The green on-grade LED's are showing on the Display
- The blade is skimming the surface of the ground without moving any material
Note: In order to turn automatics off, press the "Manual" button on the joystick control in order to change from "Auto" mode to "Man" mode.
- There is no elevation offset applied to the reference elevation
