Correct Installation of the Oil Drain Lines for the Center Mounted Turbochargers {1052, 1307}

Usage:

3516B CDE
Engine:
3516B (S/N: CDE1-UP)

After installing a new turbocharger or a rebuilt turbocharger, ensure that the oil drain tube for the turbocharger is aligned correctly. This is done by rotating the turbocharger cartridge.

Use the procedure that follows to install an oil drain tube for the turbocharger.

  1. Do not install the O-Ring Seals on either end of tube (2) yet. Put the tube in position in elbow (1) .

  1. Put lower elbow (4) in position on the bottom of tube (2) .

  1. Make sure that the flat flange surface of elbow (4) will evenly fit into the mounting position on camshaft cover (5). The elbow must fit without forcing or binding.

  1. If elbow (4) does not fit correctly, loosen the band clamps on the turbocharger cartridge. Slowly rotate the turbocharger cartridge until elbow (4) fits correctly against camshaft cover (5) without forcing.

  1. Tighten the band clamps for the turbocharger cartridge.

  1. If the alignment is correct, tube (2) should require little effort to move up and down in upper elbow (1) and in lower elbow (4) .

  1. Remove lower elbow (4) and remove tube (2). Install two new O-Ring Seals on each end of the tube. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil.

  1. Put tube (2) in position in upper elbow (1) .

  1. Put lower elbow (4) in position on the bottom of tube (2) .

  1. Install lower elbow (4) on camshaft cover (5) .

  1. Install retaining clamp (3) on tube (2) .
