Load Cell - Calibrate

Usage:

UPS 250 APZ

Calibration Procedure

Perform this procedure whenever the Flywheel Interface Board or the Load Cell is replaced.

  1. Place the key switch in the Bypass position for the MMU that is being calibrated.

    Note: In a Single-Module System, place the key switch in the Bypass position on the System Cabinet.

    Note: Proceed to step 5 for Single-Module Systems.

    Note: Continuing with step 2 may disable power to the load.

  1. Disable the input voltage to the System by opening the input circuit breaker.

  1. Connect a PC to the Parallel Cabinet Interface Board that is located in the System Cabinet.

  1. Rotate the switch on the Parallel Cabinet Interface Board to the corresponding Multiple Module Unit.

    Proceed to Step 8.

  1. Disable the input voltage to the System by opening the input circuit breaker.

    Note: Step 5 may disable power to the load.

  1. Remove all sheet metal panels. Remove the sheet metal panel for the System I/O and Isolation Board (2).

  1. Connect a PC to the System RS232/RS485 port that is located on the System I/O and Isolation Board. Make sure that jumper Jmp1 (3) on the System I/O and Isolation Board is in the correct position.

    Note: The lower side is RS232 and the higher side is RS485.

  1. Close the input circuit breaker in order to restore the power to the System.

    The System will start but the key will remain in the Bypass position.

  1. Start your PC.

  1. Run the UPS View software by double clicking over the icon (4) on your PC.

  1. Click over the "PC Settings" in the Menu Bar.

    Refer to Illustration 6.

  1. Click over the "Connection Settings" in the Menu Bar.

    Refer to Illustration 6.

    The window that is shown in illustration 7 will open.

  1. Check the "Direct Connect (serial)" radio button (6) .

  1. Select your PC COM Port (7) for this Serial Connection and set the Baud rate (8) .

    Note: The radio button for "Detailed MMU telemetry" (9) must be checked.

  1. Click on the "OK" Button (10) in order to accept these settings.

  1. Click on "Connection" on the Menu Bar.

  1. Select "Connect" from the drop-down menu.

    Your PC will be connected to the System. Your PC will receive the System Telemetry.

  1. Once you are Connected, Click over the "Enter Password" (13) in the Menu Bar.

    The "Enter User Name/Password" window will open. Refer to illustration 9.

  1. Enter your username.

  1. Enter your password.

  1. Click on "OK" Button.

    After the password has been entered, the menu bar will change.

    The Menu bar will contain a "Calibrate" Option.

  1. On the "Op. Params." menu, select "OP Group 11 "MMU Serial Number"". This will give you a submenu. Then Select "Load Cell Serial Number" from the submenu.

  1. Select "Load Cell Serial Number". This will give you an "Request Operating Parameter Change" screen.

  1. Enter the serial number of the load cell that is located on the manufacturer's data sheet.

    Note: The data sheet is enclosed with the assembly (lower bearing cartridge).

    Note: Enter a numeric value. Do not use the number that is shown in Illustration 10. The number in Illustration 10 is an example.

  1. Select "Op. Group 5: Model Index" from the "Op. Params." menu. Then, select "Load Cell Calibration Constant" from the "Model Index" submenu.

  1. Select "Load Cell" on the "Calibrate" menu. This will bring up the "Load Cell Calibration" window.

  1. Select "View Status". "View Status" will bring up a small window that provides a text message that indicates the current status of the process (calibration). Initially, this screen will show that the minimum has not been calibrated.

  1. Select "Use Defaults".

  1. Verify that the "Minimum" button in the window (calibration) is highlighted. If the button is not highlighted, click on the button.

  1. Disconnect the 16-pin connector for the lower wiring harness (flywheel) from the interface board (flywheel).

  1. Connect the jumper that is labelled "MIN".

  1. Click the "OK" button on the calibration screen.

  1. Verify that the "Maximum" button on the calibration screen is highlighted. If the button is not highlighted, click on the button. The window (status) will indicate that the Maximum has not been calibrated.

  1. Disconnect the jumper that is labelled "MIN".

  1. Connect the jumper that is labelled "MAX".

  1. Click the "OK" button on the calibration screen. The window (status) will indicate that the calibration values have not been saved.

  1. Click the "Save" button on the calibration screen.

    Note: At the end of Step 37, two errors (temperature) will be announced on the screen. These errors will be cleared when the wiring harness is reconnected in Step 38.

  1. Reconnect the wiring harness to the flywheel interface board.

    Calibration is complete.

Calibration Check

A proper calibration can be verified by using the voltage measurements and a calculator.

  1. Measure the voltage between pins "16" and "4" on the flywheel interface board and record the voltage. This value will be "Ve".

  1. Measure the voltage between pins "11" and "12" on the flywheel interface board and record the voltage. This value will be "VL". This is completed only with Control Power.

  1. Calculate the force (bottom bearing) that is expected by using the equation in Illustration 18.

  1. Compare the value that is calculated with the reading that is indicated by UPS View. The values should agree within ±1 percent.
