Hydraulically Fractured Connecting Rods and Bearings

The above Machines have one of the following engines:

  • 3054 7BJ

  • 3054B 7SG

  • 3054C CRS

  • 3054E CRX

  • 3056E CPT

The engines have a new type of connecting rod. This connecting rod is a hydraulically fractured connecting rod. Your engine could have serrated connecting rod, flat connecting rod, or hydraulically fractured connecting rod. This article is only for the introduction of the new type of connecting rod. The hydraulically fractured connecting rod will not replace the serrated connecting rod or the flat connecting rod. This is for the service requirements.

Note: Do not stamp the hydraulically fractured connecting rod.

The caps are installed on the connecting rods from the factory. The assembly maintains the proper fit of the cap. The bolts for the connecting rods are tightened to a torque of 20 N·m (15 lb ft). This torque is only for storage of the connecting rods. Only remove the cap and bolts when you are ready to install the connecting rod.

Note: The caps and rods must stay together as a pair.

Torque for installation is 70 N·m (52 lb ft). Tighten the bolts for an additional 120 degrees.

Note: Do not reuse the connecting rod bolts. New connecting rod bolts should be used.

Installing the Bearings for the Hydraulically Fractured Connecting Rods

Note: The bearings and the hydraulically fractured connecting rods do not have a tag or a recess.

Aligning the connecting rod bearing in the center of the connecting rod

  1. Install the upper half of the connecting rod bearing to the connecting rod. Ensure that the connecting rod bearing is centralized in the connecting rod. Refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Install the lower half of connecting rod bearing to connecting rod cap. Ensure that the connecting rod bearing is centralized in the connecting rod cap. Refer to Illustration 1.
