Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the information that is necessary for the installation of the 241-8672 Quick Disconnect Kit and the 241-8673 Quick Disconnect Kit . The 241-8672 Quick Disconnect Kit allows older high flow work tools to fully operate on current series high flow skid steer loaders and multi terrain loaders. Likewise, the 241-8673 Quick Disconnect Kit allows new high flow work tools to operate on older machines. These conversions are not required on standard flow machines. These conversions do not require the machine to be modified in any way. All changes to the hydraulic circuit will be made to the work tool's hydraulic hoses. Case drain hoses will not be affected by this conversion.

Do not begin installation until you have read the information that is contained in this instruction. Also obtain the Operation and Maintenance Manual and the Disassembly and Assembly Manuals for instructions that are referenced herein.

Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools in order to perform these functions properly.

Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.

Note: For cleanliness, cap all hydraulic lines until the lines are installed.

  1. Verify that the 241-8672 Quick Disconnect Kit contains all of the necessary hardware. Refer to ""Required Parts" " for details.

Note: This kit is designed to accommodate multiple work tools. Some parts may not be used in your application.

  1. Remove fitting assemblies (C) and (D) from the hydraulic hoses. These hoses will be the work tool's larger hydraulic hoses. Refer to illustration 3.

  1. If equipped, remove the original 166-0294 Work Tool Harness As from the work tool. Install 225-8014 Work Tool Harness As (5) .

Note: Models A26B and T15B do not require a wire harness. In this case, install 241-3763 Plug As (6) in order to activate the high flow mode on the host machine. Use the plate (16) and the ring (15) to secure the plug to coupler (2). Refer to illustration 4.

  1. Replace fitting assemblies (C) and (D) with fitting assemblies (2) and (1) .

Note: The connectors that are used to attach the fitting assemblies will vary depending on the hose size. The 241-8672 Quick Disconnect Kit contains all necessary connectors and associated O-ring seals.

Note: Save your original fittings and connectors so the work tool can be converted back to the original configuration.

  1. Remove fitting assemblies (A) and (B) from the hydraulic hoses. These hoses will be the work tool's smaller hydraulic hoses. Refer to illustration 3.

  1. Replace fitting assemblies (A) and (B) with fitting assemblies (4) and (3). Refer to illustration 4.
