(1) The front face of the flywheel housing and the rear face of the cylinder block must be free of contaminants during assembly. The gasket for the flywheel housing must be free of contaminants during assembly.

(2) Apply a layer of sealant between the cylinder block, the flywheel housing, and the oil pan in order to fill the space.

Tightening sequence

Tighten the bolts that hold the flywheel housing to the cylinder block in the sequence that follows:

  1. In a numerical sequence, tighten bolt 1 through bolt 8.

    Torque for bolts ... 136 ± 14 N·m (100 ± 10 lb ft)

  2. In a numerical sequence, tighten bolt 9 through bolt 17.

    Torque for bolts ... 55 ± 7 N·m (41 ± 5 lb ft)

  3. In a numerical sequence, again tighten bolt 1 through bolt 8.

    Torque for bolts ... 136 ± 14 N·m (100 ± 10 lb ft)

  4. In a numerical sequence, again tighten bolt 9 through bolt 17.

    Torque for bolts ... 55 ± 7 N·m (41 ± 5 lb ft)

  5. Tighten plug (18).

    Torque for plug ... 55 ± 14 N·m (41 ± 10 lb ft)
