C1.5 and C2.2 Engines For Caterpillar Built Marine Generator Sets Caterpillar

Increased Engine Oil Temperature - Inspect

Usage:

C1.5 TAF
When the engine is at operating temperature and the engine is using SAE 15W40 oil, the maximum oil temperature should be 120 °C (248 °F). This is the temperature of the oil in the oil pan.

If the engine oil temperature is high, inspect the following possible causes:

  • Restriction in the air inlet system

  • Fault in a fuel injector nozzle

  • Restriction in the exhaust system

  • Too much oil in the oil pan

  • Restriction in the coolant system

  • Not enough coolant in the coolant system

  • Loose drive belt
