Connecting Rod Bearings - Install

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Clean upper connecting rod bearing (1) and lubricate the bearing face with clean engine oil.

  2. Clean connecting rod cap (5) and the lower connecting rod bearing. Lubricate the bearing face with clean engine oil.

    Note: Align Tabs (X) on connecting rod bearings (1) with the tab grooves in connecting rod (3) and connecting rod cap (5).

  3. Pull the connecting rod into position against the crankshaft.

    Note: Do Not allow the connecting rod to contact the piston cooling jet.

  4. Install connecting rod cap (5) and the lower connecting rod bearing together in connecting rod (3).

    Note: Ensure that the etched number on connecting rod bearing cap (5) matches the etched number on connecting rod (3). Ensure that the Numbers (Y) are on the same side.

  5. Install bolts (2) and new nuts (4) in the connecting rod (3). Tighten the nuts evenly to a torque of 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

    Note: Do Not reuse the old nuts in order to secure the connecting rod cap.

  6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the remaining connecting rod bearings.

End By:

  1. Install the engine oil relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Relief Valve - Remove and Install".

  2. Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
