Service Magazine SEPD0660, 16 December 2002, "Improved Fan Drive Groups Include Components That Help Retain The Axial Force On The Fan Drive Bearings". Disregard this article. The correct information follows.

Description of Change: The fan drive groups that are identified in Table 1 are used on the above machines. These fan drive groups have been improved in order to help retain the axial force on fan drive bearings. This will help prevent the bolts that retain the fan drive bearings from loosening.

Adaptable To: Illustration 1 and Table 2 identify the new components and former components in the fan drive groups that are identified in Table 1.

This illustration shows the locations of the changed components in a typical fan drive group.

(A) Plug

(B) Fan Adapter

(X) The minimum distance between the face of the Fan Adapter (B) and the face of the Plug (A) is 44.0 mm (1.73 inch).

6     2     7K-4370     Bolt     7X-3325
( 1 ) The Shaft is a component of the Bracket Assembly.
The new components that are identified in Table 2 are effective with the Off-Highway Trucks that follow: 785C (S/N: APX333-UP; 5AZ274-UP), 789C (S/N: 2BW567-UP) and 793C (S/N: ATY520-UP).

The former 113-8158 Shaft and the former 113-8159 Retaining Washer can be modified and used. See the Modification Procedure that follows.

Modification Procedure

Check the Dimension (X) that is identified in Illustration 1. If the distance is less then the minimum, the bolts (6) may contact the Plug (A). In order to increase the Dimension (X), remove the Plug (A) from the Fan Adapter (B). Tap the hole in the Fan Adapter with additional threads. The additional threads will allow the Plug to be installed farther into the Fan Adapter. This will increase the distance between the Plug (A) and the bolts (6).

113-8159 Retaining Washer

The diameter of two holes (A) must be enlarged to 17.0 mm (0.67 inch).

113-8158 Shaft

The two threaded holes (B) must be drilled to a diameter of 13.8 mm (0.54 inch) and a depth of 32 mm (1.26 inch). The two holes (B) must be tapped with 5/8 - 11 thread.

In addition to the modified components, the components that are identified in Table 3 are required.
