Note: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Disconnect hose (1) from tube assembly (2).

  3. Disconnect hose assembly (4) from heat exchanger (3).

  4. Disconnect hose (5) from heat exchanger (3).

  5. Disconnect hose assembly (6) from heat exchanger (3).

  6. Disconnect hose (8) from tube assembly (7). Disconnect hose (9).

  7. Disconnect hose (10).

  8. Disconnect hose clamp (11).

  9. Disconnect hose assembly (12) from heat exchanger (3).

  10. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to heat exchanger (3). The weight of the heat exchanger is approximately 86 kg (190 lb).

  11. Remove bolts (13) in order to remove heat exchanger (3) from the engine.
