Setup of the Machine Security System{7631}

Caterpillar Products:Equipped with the Machine Security System (MSS) All

  1. Connect to the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET).

    1. Connect a laptop computer with the Cat ET to the service connector via the communication adapter.

    1. Place the Master Access Level Key (yellow key) into the key start switch and turn the key to the ON position.

    1. Start ET. Select the "Connect" icon that is located on the tool bar of the ET screen. This action starts the communication with the Machine Security System ECM.

  1. Setting the Product Identification Number of the Machine

    1. Select "Configuration" from the Service menu on the ET screen.

    1. Highlight "Product ID". See Illustration 1.

    1. Select the "Change" button at the bottom of the Configuration screen. The "Change Parameter Value" field appears.

      Caterpillar World Manufacturing Code

    1. Enter the "Product ID" of the machine in the field for "New Value". See Illustration 3.

      The "Product ID" is the last eight characters of the Caterpillar Product Identification Number (PIN).

    1. Select "OK".

  1. Setting the Time and Date

    1. Select "ECM Date/Time" from the Service menu on the ET screen. The screen for the "ECM Date/Time" appears.

    1. Click the "Change" button. The fields for the date and the time appear. See Illustration 4.

    1. Enter the correct time and the correct date and select "OK".

  1. Bypassing the Security System

    The start time and the stop time of the MSS must be configured for deactivation in order to deactivate the MSS for a period of time.

    1. Insert a key with Master Access Level in the key start switch and turn to the ON position.

    1. Select "Configuration" from the Service menu on the ET screen. The configuration screen appears.

    1. Highlight the "Security System Bypass Start Time" for the day that is desired for bypassing the MSS.

    1. Select the "Change" button at the bottom of the page. The "Change Parameter Value" field appears.

    1. Enter the desired start time for the bypass in the "New Value" field.

      All times are based on a 24 hour clock: for a start time of 6:00 AM, enter 6:00. For a start time of 6:00 PM, enter 18:00. Include the colon that is used in the setting for the time.

    1. Select "OK". The configuration screen appears.

    1. Highlight the "Security System Bypass Stop Time" in order to enter the time that is needed to bypass the MSS.

    1. Select the "Change" button at the bottom of the screen. The "Change Parameter Value" field appears.

    1. Enter the time to stop for the bypass in the "New Value" field. Then select "OK".

      Note: If you desire to arm the system 24 hours a day, set the time to start and stop for the bypass to the same time.

      Note: If you desire to disarm the system for 24 hours, set the time to start to 00:00 and the time to stop to 23:59.
