Illustration 1 is an overview of the design of the control system. The PLC has expansion modules for input and the PLC has expansion modules for output. The PLC has two serial ports. Channel 0 is used for communication with the protective relays through a converter. A modbus master driver is used in the PLC application program. Channel 1 is used for communication with the door mounted touchscreen display.

The PLC may experience a loss of memory. The PLC may experience a fatal data memory error. A copy of the program for the PLC is stored in an EEPROM. The program for the PLC may be replaced by the program that is stored in the EEPROM.
