The "Readme File" of the VIMSpc2001 software
The Versions of VIMSpc2001 software that are shipped in this version of software are listed below:

Installation Notes
NOTICE |
---|
If you are a previous user of the VIMSpc99 software, it is strongly recommended that you copy the "VIMS.MDB" file to a secure location prior to installation of this version of VIMSpc2001 software. The "VIMS.MDB" file is usually located in the "C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIMS\DATA directory". |
The VIMSpc2001 V2.1.3 installation procedure will install the latest version of the program and master data if the program has not been previously installed on the computer. The installation procedure will upgrade the VIMSpc99 software and the database to the latest master data on computers that are loaded with prior versions of the VIMSpc99 software. Updating the VIMSpc2001 database may take an hour. The time that is required for the update of the database will depend on the items that are listed below:
- The speed of the computer's processor
- The amount of memory that is available on the computer
The installation procedure will also install the latest version of "ODBC" drivers. The computer will need to be restarted during the installation, after the "ODBC" driver is installed. Computers that utilize the Windows 95 operating system will restart once. Computers that utilize the Windows 98 and Windows NT will require a restart during the installation and the computers may possibly restart after the completion of installation. Computers that utilize the Windows 2000 operating system or the ME operating system may not require a restart. Do NOT remove the VIMSpc2001 CD-ROM during the restarts. The CD-ROM will allow the setup program to resume automatically.
Note: When the VIMSpc2001 software is installed on a computer that utilizes the Windows NT operating system you must log in as an administrator or you must have administrator rights. Normal rights are required for normal operation of the program.
NOTICE |
---|
When using Microsoft Access 2000 to view the VIMSpc99 database, you will be prompted to either "Update the database to the newer version of Access" or "Open the database". Do NOT select the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option. Use the "Open the database" option to open the database and view the data. If the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option is selected, all data in the database may be lost and VIMSpc2001 may not function as intended. |
NOTICE |
---|
The size of the current Microsoft Access Database (version 5.0/97 and prior) is limited to 1 gigabyte (1,000,000 Kbytes). If the VIMS.MDB exceeds this limit, VIMSpc2001 will produce an error during the merge process. This error will not allow the user to merge files. Exceeding this limit can also destroy the integrity of the database resulting in the loss of all the data in the database. This error can be avoided by monitoring the size of the VIMS.MDB database and archive/compact the database frequently in order to avoid loss of data. |
VIMSpc2001 Enhancements
- A new Cumulative Summary Report has been added to VIMSpc2001. The report provides standardized data for the machine. This data can be used to determine that there is a problem with the operation of the machine. The Cumulative Summary Report is similar to "Cumulative Tabular Report" in terms of the "standard header page", the "page header" and the "page footer". The "report detail" section contains the information that is listed below:
- Cumulative description
- Cumulative units
- Total cumulative and life span
- Total cumulative during the time range that is specified and the corresponding time span
- Cumulative during the time range for the last download and corresponding time span
- Standardized cumulative units
- Standardized total cumulative
- Standardized total cumulative during the time range that is specified
- Standardized cumulative for the time range for the last download
- Cumulative description
- The "Automatic machine definition" feature allows the user to define a machine that is not in the database during a merge of the downloaded data. If there are multiple files of different machines, the program allows the user to skip the files of a particular machine.
- The "From Date/Time" selection for the "Cummulative Tabular Report" has been activated. This allows the user to view the report with the selected values of "From Date/Time" and "To Date/Time".
- The reset option for the Cumulative and the Histogram have been modified. The VIMSpc2001 software now requires the user to enable the function in the "System Preference" menu in order to use this option.
- VIMSpc2001 has a new feature that allows the user to select multiple databases. When a database is selected, VIMSpc2001 performs a check for the version of the database. If the database is out of date, the user is prompted to update the database.
- There has been a substantial improvement in the speed of the download for the "Data Logger".
- The utility that is used to update the database has been integrated with the VIMSpc2001 software. The "update database" option is now available in the menu of the VIMSpc2001 software.
- The "Install/Copy configuration" option allows the user to flash the complete configuration file. The "Install/Copy configuration" option for VIMS 4.0 hardware allows the user to download specific sets of data. The types of data that can be downloaded are listed below:
- Keypad
- Data Events
- Parameters
- Configurations for wheel loaders
- Keypad
- The "advance dialog" menus for the "Archive" and the "Transfer" functions of VIMSpc2001 have been updated with "All" and "None" buttons. These buttons allow the user to select all the check boxes and these buttons allow the user to unselect all the check boxes.
- Changes have been made to the "Trend" report that allows additional customization.
VIMSpc2001 Fixes
- The occasional lockup of the VIMSpc program when generating a "Data logger" or graphical report for a Snapshot after using the "Customization" menu has been resolved.
- The error messages caused by using an apostrophe (') in any text field has been corrected. The program will now display a message when you try to enter a special character.
- The limitation of 12 channels on the exporting capability has been removed.
Remaining Problems
The export capability in the reporting system will support only standard templates when exporting to disk files or application. This is a limitation of the software that is used to generate reports. The problem is being addressed.
