Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install

Usage:

3034 CPP

Removal Procedure

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove hose connector (2) from the engine oil pan. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  1. Remove bolts (1) from engine oil pan (3) .

  1. Remove engine oil pan (3) and the gasket.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Remove any gasket material from the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and the engine oil pan. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and the engine oil pan thoroughly.

    Apply a thin bead of 8T-9022 Silicone Gasket on the engine oil pan.

  1. Inspect the condition of the gasket. If the gasket is worn or damaged, use a new gasket for replacement.

  1. Install the gasket and engine oil pan (3) .

  1. Install bolts (1) that fasten engine oil pan (3) to the cylinder block. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  1. Install hose connector (2) onto the engine oil pan (3). Tighten the connector to a torque of 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  1. Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge.
