Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

3034 CPP

Removal Procedure

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Disconnect electrical connections (2) to the alternator (1) before proceeding. Mark the connections or identify the connections for later installation.

  1. Loosen bolt (4) and bolt (5) .

  1. Slide alternator (1) toward the engine.

  1. Remove alternator V-belt (3) from the alternator pulley.

  1. Remove bolts (4) and (5) .

  1. Remove alternator (1) from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Put alternator (1) in position on the engine.

  1. Install bolts (4) and (5). Tighten bolts (4) and (5) finger tight.

    Note: When you install the alternator, ensure that the alternator pulley is in alignment with the crankshaft pulley within 2.4 mm (0.09 inch).

  1. Install alternator V-belt (3) .

  1. Slide alternator (1) away from the engine in order to tension alternator V-belt (3). For more information on the tension for the alternator V-belt, refer to the Testing and Adjusting Module, "Belt Tension Chart".

  1. Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  1. Tighten bolt (5) to a torque of 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  1. Reconnect electrical connections (2) to the alternator (1) before you operate the engine.
