每个缸有一个点火变压器。 为了点燃，ECM 会在适当的时间向每个点火变压器的初级线圈发送大约 108 伏的脉冲，并维持适当的持续时间。 变压器升压，在火花塞电极间产生火花。
爆震传感器可监控发动机的爆震。 发动机相邻的每两个气缸有一个爆震传感器。 传感器产生震动数据，然后 ECM 处理该数据并确定爆震程度。 如果爆震达到无法接受的程度，ECM 会延迟受影响气缸（一个或多个）的点火定时。 如果延迟定时不能将爆震限制到可接受的程度，ECM 将关停发动机。
ECM 为点火系统提供广泛的诊断。
