SPT342 Truck Mounted Pumper Caterpillar

Product Description

Usage:

SPT342 3CZ
The SPT342 Truck Mounted Pumper is a pumping unit which is designed for applications that require high horsepower. The pumping unit is mounted on a truck. A 3412C engine provides the power for the pumping unit. The triplex pump delivers fracturing fluids to the well at a high pressure and at a high rate. The fluid ends for the pumping unit may vary. This will depend on the rate and the pressure requirements for the application. The pumping unit is equipped with a Universal Remote Control Console (URCC). The URCC is used to control the pumping unit. The URCC can be used up to a distance of 38 m (125 ft). From this console, gear selection, throttle control, and emergency shutdown are performed.

3412C Engine

The engine is a Caterpillar 3412C that is equipped with the following features:

  • Two single-stage, dry air cleaners with service indicators

  • A stainless steel muffler, flexible exhaust fitting assembly and rain cap

  • Air inlet shutoff

  • 12 Volt 60 Amp Alternator

  • Fuel/water separators with rock guards on bottom bowls

Lubrication Systems

Power End Lubrication

The power end lubrication system provides lubrication for the triplex pump's crankshaft and the triplex pump's crossheads. The power end lubrication system is driven by a hydraulic pump that is mounted on the auxiliary drive for the transmission. The power end lubrication system is active when the deck engine is operating. A 190 L (50 US gal) oil reservoir is located under the triplex pump's drive shaft in the center of the truck's frame rails. The oil reservoir supplies oil to the hydraulic system. The reservoir should be filled with lubricating oil and the oil reservoir should be kept full. An oil cooler inside the deck radiator cools the lubrication system. A thermostatic valve is located in the hydraulic line immediately after the pump. The thermostatic valve routes oil to the cooler when the oil temperature reaches 60 °C (140 °F).

Fluid End Lubrication

The fluid end lubrication system provides lubrication for the packing for the triplex pump. The lubrication system is an air over the top of oil type. The system is driven by air pressure. The lubrication reservoir is an ASME coded carbon steel pressure vessel that is registered with the National Board. The lubrication reservoir has a 60.5 L (16 US gal) capacity with 101.6 mm (4 inch) filler cap, a level indicator and a 19.05 mm (0.75 inch) drain valve.

The lubrication system includes the following components:

  • Solenoid valve

  • Pressure regulator

  • Flow divider valve

  • Flow control valve

  • Check valves

  • Relief valve

  • Liquid filled pressure gauge

  • Carbon steel catch tank

The carbon steel catch tank has a drain valve on the bottom of the tank. The lube system is off when the driveline brake is on. The oil drain is located under the triplex pump pistons. Oil drains into a carbon steel catch tank that is located at the right rear of the truck. The carbon steel catch tank should be drained regularly. For information on the proper lubricant to use, see this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Plate Locations and Film Locations".

Suction Stabilizer

The SPT342 Truck Mounted Pumper is equipped with a flow stabilizer in order to reduce pulsation in the fluid end and the discharge lines. The stabilizer is installed at the forward end of the suction piping. The stabilizer must be properly charged and maintained. The internal cartridge must be charged with nitrogen to 206 kPa (30 psi).

Hydraulic Starting System

The hydraulic starting system consists of a hydraulic starting motor that is driven by a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is driven by the tractor transmission's power take-off. A solenoid valve is used to direct oil to the hydraulic starting motor when the deck engine's start switch is engaged.

Cooling Systems

The three cooling systems on the SPT342 Truck Mounted Pumper consist of the following cooling circuits:

  • The deck engine's jacket water is cooled by a conventional radiator that is vertically mounted. The engine water pump circulates the jacket water.

  • The transmission oil is cooled by a jacket water heat exchanger that is mounted on the right side of the deck engine. The torque converter pump for the transmission circulates the transmission oil.

  • The triplex pump power end lubrication circuit is cooled by an air to oil heat exchanger that is mounted on the front of the jacket water radiator.

Electrical Controls and Gauge Panel

Electrical Controls

The Universal Remote Control Console (URCC) is used to control the pumping unit. The following functions can be controlled: deck engine, gear selection, throttle control, pump delivery rate and emergency shutdown.

Store the URCC in the storage box that is located on the left side edge of the truck next to the fire extinguisher. The legs of the console are stored on the left side of the radiator mount. Visual warning and visual indication lamps are provided for the vital system parameters. This console is portable up to a distance of 38 m (125 ft) from the SPT342 Truck Mounted Pumper. The URCC is connected to the control system through a 38 m (125 ft) control cable.

The control cable has connectors that plug into the URCC on one end. The other end plugs into the main junction box. The truck has 12 volt battery power for the control system. The batteries are the primary source of power for the control system until the deck engine is running. Once the deck engine is operating, the 60 amp alternator will supply the power for the URCC.

Gauge Panel

The gauge panel is located next to the radiator support. The gauge panel provides gauge readings of vital temperature and vital pressure system parameters of the deck engine, the transmission and the triplex pump's lubrication system. Gauges for the deck engine, the transmission and triplex pump's lubrication system have integral electrical switches. The switches will indicate the temperature changes and pressure changes to the URCC.

Main Junction Box

The main junction box is the junction point for the following components: deck engine, deck transmission, pump controls and sensors.
