  1. Test the "POWER" light.

    1. Check the status of the "POWER" light.

    1. Make sure that "CB4" is turned ON.

    1. Test for voltage between the "+24VDC" terminal and the "-24VDC" terminal.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The "POWER" light is ON or 24 VDC is present. Proceed to test step 2.

      • 24 VDC is NOT present. Test the wiring in the power circuit. Repair damaged wiring or replace damaged wiring.

  1. Test the "RUN" light.

    1. Check the status of the "RUN" light.

    1. Place "CB4" in the OFF position. Place "CB4" in the ON position.

    1. Disconnect all wires except for the "+24VDC" terminal and the "-24VDC" terminal.

    1. Cycle power by turning "CB4" OFF and ON.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The "RUN" light did NOT come ON. The speed switch is not correct. Replace the speed switch.

      • The "RUN" illuminated. Reconnect the wires one at a time. The light should go out. Repair the circuit that is associated with the wire that is connected when the light goes out.

  1. Test the "Fault" light.

    1. Check the status of the "FAULT" light.

    1. Cycle power by turning "CB4" OFF and ON.

    1. Disconnect all wires from the input terminals and from the output terminals.

    1. Cycle power by turning "CB4" OFF and ON.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The "FAULT" light went out when the power was cycled for the first time. Proceed to the "Calibration Check" section.

      • The "FAULT" light went out when the power was cycled for the second time. Reconnect the wires one at a time. The light should come on. Repair the circuit that is associated with the wire that is connected when the light comes on.

  1. Test the "SPEED SWITCH HEALTHY" light. The light is on output 5 of the engine speed switch.

    1. Cycle power by turning "CB4" OFF and ON.

The results of the preceding procedure are in the following list:

      • The "SPEED SWITCH HEALTHY" light is ON. Proceed to the "Calibration Check" section.

      • The "SPEED SWITCH HEALTHY" light is BLINKING. Test the speed sensor. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Speed Sensor - Adjust".

      • The "SPEED SWITCH HEALTHY" light is OFF. The speed switch is not correct. Replace the speed switch.

Calibration Check

Note: The 163-0096 Diagnostic and Calibration Tool is recommended for this check. Refer to the "Owner's Manual" for more information. If the 163-0096 Diagnostic and Calibration Tool is not used, a signal generator that is capable of a 10 Volt peak square wave or a 3.5 Volt RMS sine wave must be used.

  1. Place "CB1" and "CB4" in the OFFposition in order to remove power.

  1. Disconnect the Input/Output for the active engine speed sensor.

  1. Connect the positive lead of the signal generator to the input/output terminal and the negative lead of the signal generator to the DC Com terminal.

  1. Turn ON "CB1" and "CB4".

  1. Turn the engine control switch to the "Local" position.

  1. Check the components that follow using table 1:

    • Crank Terminate Speed

    • Oil Step

    • Overspeed Setting

Set the frequency generator to 10 Hz below the setpoint that is desired. The output for that setting should stay OFF. Change the setting to 10 Hz above the setpoint that is desired. The output for that setting should turn ON.

    Table 1
Rated Speed     Crank Terminate Speed     Time Delay for Crank Terminate Speed     Oil Step     Overspeed
    720 RPM     723 Hz         2295 Hz     3458 Hz
    750 RPM     723 Hz         2391 Hz     3602 Hz
    900 RPM     723 Hz         2869 Hz     4322 Hz
    930 RPM     723 Hz         2964 Hz     4466 Hz
    1000 RPM     723 Hz         3188 Hz     4803 Hz
    1050 RPM     723 Hz         3347 Hz     5043 Hz
Output lamp for the engine speed switch     O/1     O/2     O/3     O/0
Output Relay     ECTR     ECTTDR     EOSTR     EOSSR

Note: If the "Speed Switch Healthy" output on the engine speed switch "terminal 0/5" begins to flash during the procedure, the output can be reset by turning the engine control switch to the "Off/Reset" position.

Note: Once the "Crank Terminate" output is activated, the output will stay on until the frequency of the signal generator is reduced to 0 Hz and two seconds pass.

Note: The "Crank Terminate Time Delay" output activates after the "Crank Terminate" output activates. The time is 9 seconds, 15 seconds, or 18 seconds. The time depends on the settings of the "Crank Terminate Time Delay" jumper wires.

Note: The "Oil Step" output activates after a 9 second delay after the frequency is set above the setpoint.

Note: When the "Overspeed" output becomes active, the output stays active until the engine control switch is turned to the "Off/Reset" position.
