This article provides a brief description of fixes and enhancements that have been made to the VIMSpc99 software. This version of the VIMSpc99 Software, FERV0066 replaces the prior version 1.1.7a of the VIMSpc99 software.
The following information was taken directly from the "VIMSpc99 Readme File" of the VIMSpc99 V2.0.3 CD-ROM. Refer to this file for additional information.
The "Readme File" Of VIMSpc99 V2.0.3
The versions of VIMSpc99 software that are shipped in this release of software are listed below:
- Version 2.0.3 of the VIMSpc99 software
- Version 1.0.2 of the Database
- Version 1.2.6 of the Master Data
Installation Notes
NOTICE |
---|
If you are a previous user of the VIMSpc99 software, it is strongly recommended that you copy the "VIMS.MDB" file to a secure location prior to installation of this version of VIMSpc99 software. The "VIMS.MDB" file is usually located in the "C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIMS\DATA directory". |
The VIMSpc99 V2.0.3 installation procedure will install the latest version of the program and master data if the program has not been previously installed on the computer. The installation procedure will upgrade the VIMSpc99 software and the database to the latest master data on computers that are loaded with prior versions of the VIMSpc99 software. Updating the VIMSpc99 database may take an hour. The update time of the database depends on the speed of the computer's processor and the amount of memory that is available on the computer. The installation procedure will also install the latest version of "ODBC" drivers. The computer will need to be restarted during the installation, after the "ODBC" driver is installed. Computers that utilize the Windows 95 operating system will restart once. Computers that utilize the Windows 98 and Windows NT will require a restart during the installation and the computers may possibly restart after the completion of installation. Computers that utilize the Windows 2000 operating system or the ME operating system may not require a restart. Do NOT remove the VIMSpc99 CD-ROM during the restarts. The CD-ROM will allow the setup program to automatically resume.
Note: When the VIMSpc99 software is installed on a computer that utilizes the Windows NT operating system you must log in as an administrator or you must have administrator rights. Normal rights are required for normal operation of the program.
NOTICE |
---|
When using Microsoft Access 2000 to view the VIMSpc99 database, you will be prompted to either "Update the database to the newer version of Access" or "Open the database". Do NOT select the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option. Use the "Open the database" option to open the database and view the data. If the "Update the database to the newer version of Access" option is selected, all data in the database may be lost and VIMSpc99 may not function as intended. |
NOTICE |
---|
The size of the current Microsoft Access Database (version 5.0/97 and prior) is limited to 1 gigabyte (1,000,000 Kbytes). If the VIMS.MDB exceeds this limit, VIMSpc99 will produce an error during the merge process. This error will not allow the user to merge files. Exceeding this limit can also destroy the integrity of the database resulting in the loss of all the data in the database. This error can be avoided by monitoring the size of the VIMS.MDB database and archive/compact the database frequently in order to avoid loss of data. This issue will be addressed in a future version of software. |
Updating a Different Database
This procedure may be used to update a non default VIMS database.
- Make a secure copy of the "VIMS.MDB" database.
Note: The "VIMS.MDB" file is usually located in the "C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIMS\DATA directory".
- Rename the "VIMS.MDB" database to "VIMSDB.MDB".
- Move the database that is to be updated to the same directory as the "VIMSDB.MDB" database.
- Change the name of the file to "VIMS.MDB".
- Run the "Database Update" utility. The utility is located in the "Update" directory on the VIMSpc99CD-ROM.
- After the database has been updated, rename the file to the file's previous name.
- Rename the "VIMSDB.MDB" file back to "VIMS.MDB".
VIMSpc99 Enhancements
The Database Archive function now supports the selection of multiple machines. This function allows the user to combine the "archive files". This can be done when the computer is idle.
The "Database Transfer function" now supports selection of multiple machines.
All reports now utilize a new report system. The new report system improves the functions that are listed below.
- Pagination of reports
- Preview of reports
- Printing of reports
The new system provides improved print generation time, much improved pagination speed within the previewer, improved export capabilities, and fast background printing. Blank pages or almost blank pages have been eliminated with the new report system.
The performance of the "Trend Report" dialog box has been improved.
The Tabular Report for trends has been improved by changing the structure of the database.
The "Download Date" field and the "SMH" field have been removed from the "Select Machine" dialog box in order to improve the speed of this application.
The time that is required to produce the "Loader Payload Summary" report has been significantly reduced.
VIMSpc99 Fixes
After opening and closing an Archive database, the user could not open any reports. This was due to not completely closing the archive database. This problem has been resolved.
The intermittent problem that required the user to restart the computer to View "Realtime parameters" after a download of the onboard data has been resolved.
The "Select by Download" dialog box did not reflect the reset information correctly in the "SMH" mode for downloads of Cumulative data and Histogram data. This will affect the data that is added to the database after updating the VIMSpc99 software. The data that was previously added to the database will not accurately reflect the reset time in the "SMH" mode.
The problem that caused the termination of certain operations of the database and the "MaxLocksPerFile Exceeded" message to display have been resolved.
The graphical reports for "Trends" now displays the correct indicator of time (AM/PM) on the "X" axis of the graph.
The intermittent error ("divide by zero") that occurred during the generation of the "Payload Summary Report" by work shift has been resolved.
The units for the suspension cylinder pressures of the "Truck Payload Detail" screen have been corrected to read "KPA/PSI" for the 797 Off-Highway Truck.
The intermittent "DCOM" error that was experienced during the start-up of VIMSpc99 has been resolved. The VIMSpc99 software will now install the latest "Microsoft Data Access Components" if the components are not present.
The "Warning Category" and "Dependency" columns of the "Data Event Report" in the "View Change Configuration" utility has been corrected.
The mouse pointer will no longer be displayed as an hourglass in the "View Datalogger" and "View Snapshot" screens if no machine has been selected by the user.
Remaining Problems
The export function within the reporting system may not function properly. Some export templates are not supported. The developer of the reporting system has been notified, and this problem is being addressed. This problem will be fixed in a future release.
When an old version of a "master data archive" or a VIMS database is used, the "Selected Machine" table or the "Machines" table in the "report header page" for all reports will not contain the correct information for the "Reset Date" and the "SMH". When the onboard data is downloaded the "Reset Date" field will not display information. The "SMH" will only display the date of the last download. The "summary" report and the "detail" report of the "Loader Payload Report" will not function. This is due to a change in the layout of the table in the database. This problem will be fixed by updating the database in a future release. See the directions that are listed above in order to update a database.
Some functionality may be lost if the "ENGLISH (United States)" setting is not used as the Windows Regional Setting. This loss of functionality was present in previous releases of the VIMSpc99 software. Other settings have been tested. Some errors that are seen can be easily corrected.
