Material for reduction of sound in the operator station is available. This material will assist in the reduction of noise in the operator station in older machines that have a cab.
The material that is listed in Table 1 should be used only in cabs that are enclosed. The foam should be mounted on surfaces that are dry, clean and free of oil. The foam should be installed on the surface of the inside of the doors and the walls of the cab.
Death or injury to the operator may occur from the improper placement of the material for sound suppression. The placement of the material for sound suppression must not affect the following functions of the operator: operator visibility, access to the cab, exit from the cab, access to the controls and operation of the controls. |

The following actions may assist in the reduction of the sound level in the cab.
- Pressurize the cab. The pressure of the cab must be between 5 mm (0.2 inch) and 15.2 mm (0.60 inch) of water.
- Ensure that the air filters for the cab are replaced or cleaned.
- Eliminate air leaks in the cab. Use a 4C-5623 Smoke Candle to identify leaks.
- Inspect the seals for the door and the windows. Seals that are damaged or hardened should be replaced.
- Inspect the isolation mounts for the cab assembly. Mounts that have the following problems should be replaced: damaged, worn and loose. Contact the appropriate product support group for the older machines which have direct connections between the cab and the frame.
- Repair any items that rattle or vibrate.
- Inspect the rubber boots on the control linkages. Replace rubber boots if the boots are damaged or missing. If the machine never had rubber boots, install the rubber boots on the control linkages.
- Replace the glass that is tempered with laminated safety glass. The laminated safety glass MUST meet the following SAE specifications: J673, J674 and J103.
- Replace sliding windows with laminated safety glass that is in a fixed position. The laminated safety glass MUST meet the following SAE specifications: J673, J674 and J103.
- Install windows that are for arctic conditions.
