This article describes the fixes that have been made to the VIMSpc99 software version 1.1.7. The changes are listed below:

  • Version 1.1.7a of VIMSpc99 is now able to open all archived files.

  • The installation program of the VIMSpc99 software version 1.1.7a now installs the "protocolhandler.mdb" database file correctly.

The readme file has also been updated to reflect the changes that are listed above.

The "VIMSpc99 archive database fix" was mailed on 15March 2000 to all the subscribers on the VIMSpc99 subscription list.

If you have already installed VIMSpc99 version 1.1.7and have not received the "VIMSpc99 archive database fix", you can download the "VIMSpc99 archive database fix" via the internet. The file is located at "http://www.cat.com/METS". Use the procedure that is listed below to install the "VIMSpc99 archive database fix".

The FERV0066 VIMSpc99 version 1.1.7a software replaces the former VIMSpc99 version 1.1.7 software. If you are unable to access the internet site to download the "VIMSpc99 archive database fix" you can order the FERV0066 VIMSpc99 version 1.1.7a software via the normal Caterpillar channels for literature.

VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix Download Procedure

  1. Create a new (temporary) directory that you can download the "VIMSpc99 archive database fix" to. You can use Windows Explorer to create the directory.

    Procedure To Create A New Directory

    1. Open the Window Explorer application.

    1. Double click on the "Drive" that you want the new directory to reside.

    1. Click on the "File" menu. (This will display a pull down menu.)

    1. Click on the "New" option that is listed in the pull down menu. (This will cause a second pull down menu to be displayed.)

    1. Select the "Folder" option that is listed in the second pull down menu. (This will place a "new folder" in the designated drive.)

    1. The "Title Box" of the new folder will be highlighted. The folder will be labelled: "New Folder". (This is done in order for you to change the name of the folder.) Type in the name of the folder that you have chosen for the folder, such as "VIMS117a".

    1. Press the "Enter" key on the keyboard in order to accept the new name for the folder.

    1. Close the Windows Explorer application.

  1. Open your internet web browser.

  1. Go to the "VIMS web site": http://www.cat.com/METS

  1. Click on the "Software Updates" link that is located on the left side of the page. This will take you to the software download web page.

  1. Click on the "VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix" link. This will take you to a disclaimer page. Click on the "I AGREE" link, if you agree with the statement that is displayed. This will cause a "Save As" dialog box to be displayed.

  1. Select the directory that was created in step 1.

    Procedure To Select The Desired Directory

    1. Click on the down arrow to the left of the "Save in" dialog box. (This will display a list of available "Drives".)

    1. Select the "Drive" that you wish to save the file in, from the list that is displayed. (This will display the available directories contained on the "Drive" that you choose.)

    1. Click on the directory that you wish to save the file in, from the list that is displayed. (VIMS117a)

    1. Enter the name that you wish to save the file as in the "File name" dialog box or use the default name that initially appears in the "File name" dialog box.

  1. Click on the "Save" push button in the "Save As" dialog box.

VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix Installation Procedure

  1. Open the Window Explorer application.

  1. Locate the drive and directory that contains the "VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix" file.

  1. Double click on the "VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix" file. This will cause an MS-DOS window to appear as the update file runs. The MS-DOS window will close automatically when the update is completed.

  1. After the "VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix" is complete you may delete the update file file that you downloaded and the temporary directory.

Note: This file can also be saved to a 3.5 inch floppy disk and installed on other Service Tools (laptops) using the "VIMSpc99 Archive Database Fix Installation Procedure" that is listed above.
