Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Alignment of the pin joints is an important factor. The pins that are used in the pin joints are a slip fit. It is important to relieve the pin joint pressure from the pin joints that are being serviced. It is important to park the machine on a surface that is flat and level. Use the implement hydraulics, hoists, or suitable lifting devices in order to relieve the pin joint pressure. Use Illustration 1 as a guide for the pins and the pin joints that are referenced in this procedure.

  1. Lower the bucket so that the bottom of the bucket is flat on the ground.

  1. Install a suitable jack stand or suitable cribbing under boom (1) , as shown.

  1. Attach a suitable hoist and a suitable lifting sling to bucket link (2) , as shown. The weight of bucket link (2) is 263 kg (580 lb).

  1. Remove bolts (3) , the washers, and plate (4) from C-pin (5) .

  1. Attach a suitable hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (A) . The weight of Tooling (A) is 80 kg (175 lb).

  1. Install Tooling (A) on the end of C-pin (5) , as shown.

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove C-pin (5) . The weight of C-pin is 29 kg (64 lb).

  1. Use the hoist in order to lower bucket link (2) onto boom (1) .

  1. Repeat Steps 3 through 8 for the remaining C-pin.

  1. Remove bolts (7) , the washers, and plate (8) from B-pin (6) .

  1. Remove bolt (9) , nut (10) , the washers, and plate (11) from B-pin (6) .

  1. Attach a suitable hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (B) . The weight of Tooling (B) is 80 kg (175 lb).

  1. Install Tooling (B) on the end of B-pin (6) , as shown.

  1. Use Tooling (B) in order to remove B-pin (5) . The weight of B-pin is 29 kg (64 lb).

  1. Repeat Steps 10 through 14 for the remaining B-pin.

  1. Attach a suitable hoist and lifting chains to the bucket.

  1. Use the hoist in order to remove the bucket. The weight of the bucket is 4080 kg (9000 lb).

    Note: If the machine is operational, the bucket may be removed by backing up the machine.

  1. Remove collars (12) from the B-pin bores of the bucket.

    Note: The outside diameter of the collar is a slip fit in the B-pin bores.
