Note: It is important to follow the correct procedure for installing maintenance free linkage seals. Many seal failures are the direct result of mistakes during the assembly and during the installation of the seal components.
- Use the correct tooling to assemble seal (2) and compression ring (1).

- Install seal (2) into installer ring (3).
Note: The lip of seal (2) should be facing downward onto installer ring (3). See Illustration 3.
- Submerge compression ring (1) in oil. Use 8T-9582 SAE 80W90 Oil to lubricate the assembly.

- Install compression ring (1) on seal (2) that is located in installer ring (3).
Note: The compression ring (1) cannot be inserted upside-down. Resistance will be encountered if the compression ring is installed upside-down.

Note: The maintenance free linkage seal will remain in the installer ring when the seal assembly is assembled correctly.
- Position the installer ring and seal (4) over plunger (5).

- Insert the installer ring and plunger (6) into the bore of collar (7). The fit will be loose as the plunger acts as a guide to ensure proper alignment.

- Evenly apply pressure around the edges of plunger (5) until the seal is inserted into the groove of collar (7).
- Remove the installer ring and plunger (6) from collar (7).
