3408E and 3412E Engines for Caterpillar Built Machines Caterpillar

CID 0190 FMI 03 Engine Speed open/short to + batt

Usage:

D10R 3KR
Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects one of the following conditions:

  • The signal wire for the primary engine speed/timing sensor is disconnected.

  • The signal wire for the primary engine speed/timing sensor is shorted to the +Battery.

System Response:

The ECM will log the diagnostic code. The diagnostic code may be viewed on a display module or on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). If a valid signal is not received from the primary engine speed/timing sensor, the ECM will default to the secondary engine speed/timing sensor.

  • Engine misfires

  • Engine shutdown

Note: The engine will shut down only if the primary engine speed/timing sensor and the secondary engine speed/timing sensor fail.

Test Step 1. Perform the following diagnostic procedure: Engine Speed/Timing Sensor Circuit - Test

Results:

  • OK - STOP
