(3) Flywheel Inverter "C"

(4) Flywheel Inverter "B"

Remove the field coil driver module in order to gain access to the Flywheel Inverter module. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Field Coil Driver Module - Remove and Install".

The A phase module must be removed in order to access the B phase module. In order to access the C phase module, the A phase module and the B phase module must be removed.

  1. Place the system in bypass mode by turning the keyswitch to the Bypass position.

  1. Isolate the system from the load by closing the bypass circuit breakers.

  1. Open the circuit breaker for the output of the system.

  1. Open the AC circuit breaker for the input of the system.

  1. Allow the capacitor banks to bleed down for approximately 5 minutes.

Note: When the flywheel is spinning, the following components are energized: the bus, the armature leads and the fuses. Accomplish the procedure as quickly as possible. During the procedure, the rotor is spinning on the bottom bearing.

  1. Label all the input wires and all of the output wires.

  1. Disconnect cable "J2" from the module.

  1. Disconnect cable "J3" from the module.

  1. Remove the power cable from the inverter module.

  1. Remove the two mounting bolts from the positive connection of the DC bus.

  1. Remove the two mounting bolts from the negative connection of the DC bus.

  1. Loosen the two mounting bolts at the top of the heat sink assembly.

  1. Slide the module forward and remove the old assembly.

  1. Install the new assembly.

  1. Install the two mounting bolts that are for the negative connection of the DC bus. Torque the bolts to 11.3 N·m (100 lb in).

  1. Install the two mounting bolts that are for the positive connection of the DC bus. Torque the bolts to 11.3 N·m (100 lb in).

  1. Tighten the two mounting bolts at the top of the heat sink assembly. Torque the bolts to 4.5 N·m (40 lb in).

  1. Connect the power cable to the inverter module. Torque the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  1. Connect cable "J3" to the module.

  1. Connect cable "J2" to the module.

  1. Install the field coil driver module. Refer to Testing And Adjusting, "Field Coil Driver Module - Remove and Install".

Note: It is not necessary to recalibrate the field coils if the field coil driver module has not been replaced.
