Battery - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from battery fumes or explosion.

Batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode. Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts the skin or eyes.

Prevent sparks near the batteries. Sparks could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jumper cable ends to contact each other or the engine. Improper jumper cable connections can cause an explosion.

Always wear protective glasses when working with batteries.

Note: For easier assembly, mark all wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Open the door assembly on the left side of the platform in order to access the batteries.

  1. Remove two nuts (1) that secure the two clips to hold-down assembly (2). Remove the two clips from cable assemblies (3) .

  1. Remove four cable assemblies (3) from the terminal assemblies.

  1. Remove four nuts (4) that secure hold-down assembly (2) to the four rods. Remove hold-down assembly (2) from the four rods.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the battery handles on battery (5). Secure the suitable lifting device to a hoist.

    Note: Inspect the condition of the battery handles for wear or damage before the battery is removed.

  1. Remove battery (5) from the platform. The weight of battery (5) is 79 kg (175 lb).

  1. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 in order to remove the remaining battery.

Installation Procedure

Note: Verify that all of the components of the battery are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the battery handles on battery (5). Secure the suitable lifting device to a hoist.

    Note: Inspect the condition of the battery handles for wear or damage before the battery is installed.

  1. Install battery (5) to the platform. The weight of battery (5) is 79 kg (175 lb).

  1. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 in order to install the remaining battery.

  1. Position hold-down assembly (2) to the four rods. Install four nuts (4) that secure hold-down assembly (2) to the four rods.

  1. Install four cable assemblies (3) to the terminal assemblies.

  1. Position the two clips to cable assemblies (3). Install two nuts (1) that secure the two clips to hold-down assembly (2) .

  1. Close the door assembly on the left side of the platform.
