Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

994D 3TZ

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
  2. Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".

Note: For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Remove eight bolts (1), the washers, and screen (2) from the radiator guard assembly. Remove six bolts (3), the washers, and screen (4) from the radiator guard assembly.

  1. Open the lower door on the left side of the machine in order to access the alternator. Remove two nuts (5) and the washers that secure guard assembly (6) to alternator (7). Remove guard assembly (6) from alternator (7) .

  1. Remove two spacers (8) from the two bolts. Adjust two nuts (9) along the rod in order to remove alternator belt (10). Rotate alternator (7) toward the engine. Remove alternator belt (10) from pulley (11) .

  1. Remove bolt (12) and the washer that secures cable assembly (13) to alternator (7). Disconnect cable assembly (13) from alternator (7). Remove cap (14) and disconnect the wire from the alternator.

  1. Remove nut (15) and the washer in order to disconnect grounding strap (16) from the alternator.

  1. Remove two bolts (17) and the washers that secure alternator (7) to the mounting bracket. Remove alternator (7) from the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Verify that all of the components of the alternator are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  1. Position alternator (7) to the mounting bracket. Install two bolts (17) and the washers that secure alternator (7) to the mounting bracket.

  1. Position grounding strap (16) to the alternator. Install nut (15) and the washer that secures grounding strap (16) to the alternator.

  1. Connect the wire to the alternator and install cap (14). Position cable assembly (13) to alternator (7). Install bolt (12) and the washer that secures cable assembly (13) to alternator (7). Tighten bolt (12) to a torque of 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

  1. Install alternator belt (10) to pulley (11). Rotate alternator (7) away from the engine. Install two spacers (8) to the two bolts. Adjust two nuts (9) along the rod in order to tighten alternator belt (10) .

  1. Position guard assembly (6) to alternator (7). Install two nuts (5) and the washers that secure guard assembly (6) to alternator (7). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Alternator and Fan Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace" for the appropriate belt tension and the correct procedure. Close the lower door on the left side of the machine.

  1. Install six bolts (3), the washers, and screen (4) to the radiator guard assembly. Install eight bolts (1), the washers, and screen (2) to the radiator guard assembly.

End By:

  1. Separate the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
  2. Remove the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
