Follow the recommended procedure for removal and installation of tires and or wheel assemblies.

Ensure that the machine and tire and or wheel assembly are properly supported at all times.

Improper procedures that are used to remove and install tires and or wheel assemblies can result in personal injury or death.

  1. Use an appropriate floor jack in order to raise the tire and rim from the floor. Install Tooling (A) .

  1. Loosen eight lug nuts (1) that secure the tire and rim.

  1. Use the suitable lifting straps to support the tire and rim.

  1. Remove eight lug nuts (1) .

  1. Remove tire and rim (2) with the suitable lifting straps from axle assembly (3). Weight of the tire and rim is 51 kg (113 lb).

  1. Repeat Step 1 and Step 5 in order to remove the opposite tire and rim.

Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  1. Use the suitable lifting straps to place tire and rim (2) into position. The weight of the tire and rim is 51 kg (113 lb).

  1. Install eight lug nuts (1) that secure tire and rim (2) to axle assembly (3) .

  1. Tighten the nuts according to the pattern in illustration 5. Tighten the lug nuts to a torque of 149 ± 7 N·m (110 ± 5 lb ft). The lug nuts must be tightened to a torque of 149 ± 7 N·m (110 ± 5 lb ft) after one hour of operation.

  1. Use an appropriate floor jack to remove Tooling (A) and lower the machine to the floor.

  1. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 in order to install the opposite tire and rim.
