Caterpillar Monitoring System Display Area

(1) First display

(2) Second display

(3) Module identifier (MID)

(4) Fault present indicator ("SERV CODE")

(5) Component identifier (CID)

(6) Failure Mode identifier (FMI)

When the Caterpillar Monitoring System is in Normal Mode, Use the following procedure when a diagnostic code is detected. When a diagnostic code is detected, the "SERV CODE" indicator will turn ON .

  1. Enter Service Mode (Mode 3).

  1. A single Diagnostic Code will be shown. The display will toggle between the Module Identifier and CID-FMI code. When no Diagnostic Code is active, the MID shows "- - -". The readout will not toggle in order to show the CID-FMI code.

  1. In order to see all Detected Diagnostic codes, use the "SCROLL" switch to scroll through the diagnostic codes. The display area will momentarily show the MID. The CID-FMI code will appear in place of the MID. Toggle the "SCROLL" switch in order to see each Diagnostic Code in succession. After the last diagnostic code has been shown, the MID will display "End".

  1. Release the "SCROLL" switch. When the "SCROLL" switch is released, the desired diagnostic code is placed "on-hold".

  1. Make sure that the MID "030" is displayed in the Display Area.

  1. Observe the "SERV CODE" indicator.

    • If the SERV CODE indicator is ON, the diagnostic code that is shown is active.

    • If the SERV CODE indicator is OFF, the diagnostic code that is shown is logged. The diagnostic code is active and the diagnostic code then becomes inactive. The diagnostic code is then logged in memory. This may or may not indicate an intermittent condition.

  1. In order to troubleshoot the Diagnostic Code, perform the procedure that appears with the CID-FMI code.

  1. After a diagnostic code is corrected or when the diagnostic code is not needed, CLEAR the diagnostic code. Use the CLEAR switch to clear the diagnostic code. After clearing the diagnostic code, the Display Area advances to the next available diagnostic code.

  1. Repeat Step 2 through Step 8 for the remaining diagnostic codes.
