Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

  1. Place an index mark on all of the electrical wires that are connected to the alternator. Disconnect the electrical wires from the alternator.

  1. Loosen two nuts (1) from the alternator bracket.

  1. Loosen tension adjustment bolt (4) and slide alternator (3) toward the engine. Remove V-belt (5) from the engine.

  1. Remove tension adjustment bolt (4) and the washer from alternator (3) .

  1. Remove two nuts (1) with the washers and bolts (2) from the alternator bracket.

  1. Remove alternator (3) from the engine.

  1. Put alternator (3) in position on the engine.

  1. Install two bolts (2) with the washers and nuts (1) that fasten the alternator to the alternator bracket. Tighten nuts (1) finger tight. Install tension adjustment bolt (4) and the washer through the adjustment bracket and into the alternator. Do not tighten tension adjustment bolt (4) at this time.

  1. Put V-belt (5) in position on the engine. Adjust the tension on V-belt (5) by moving alternator (3) away from the engine. Tighten tension adjustment bolt (4) after the proper belt tension is made. For additional information on adjusting the V-belt, refer to the Specifications Module, "Belt Tension Chart" topic.

  1. Tighten nuts (1) in order to secure alternator (3) in position on the engine.
