(1) Use Tooling (B) if Tooling (A) is unavailable.

Start By:

  1. Remove the stick cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Put the stick cylinder on Tooling (A). The weight of the stick cylinder is approximately 73 kg (161 lb).

  2. Remove lock ring (19) from the head and cylinder assembly (10).

  3. Use Tooling (C), and unscrew head (21) from cylinder assembly (10).

  4. Use Tooling (A) to slide rod assembly (9) with head (21) out of cylinder assembly (10).

  5. Remove retaining ring (11), ring (12), stop (13), and two retaining rings (14) from rod assembly (9).

  6. Remove ring (3), O-ring seal (4), and ring (5) from piston (6).

  7. Use Tooling (B) to remove locknut (2) that secures piston (6) to rod assembly (9). Remove the piston from the rod assembly.

  8. Remove stop (16) and ring (15) from the rod assembly.

  9. Slide cylinder assembly (10) onto the rod assembly. Screw head (21) onto the cylinder assembly. Pull the cylinder assembly and head (21) as a unit away from the rod assembly. Remove the head from the cylinder assembly.

  10. Remove O-ring seal (20), O-ring seal (17) and ring (18) from the head. Remove O-ring seal (7) and ring (8) from the head.

  11. Use Tooling (D) to remove lip seal (28), ring (27), seal (26), seal (25), ring (23), and bearing (24) from the head.

  12. Remove lip seals (22). Use Tooling (E) to remove the bearing from the rod assembly.

  13. Remove lip seals (1). Use Tooling (E) to remove the bearing from the cylinder assembly.
