    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.

  2. Drain the oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 150 L (40 US gal).

  4. Remove four bolts (3), the washers and cover plate (4) above the main control valve.

  5. Oil will drain from all of the hose assemblies and tube assemblies when the hose assemblies and tube assemblies are disconnected from the main control valve. Place a suitable container under the main control valve in order to contain the oil.

Note: Some hose assemblies and tube assemblies which are connected to the main control valve contain loose components. These components can be lost during removal of the main control valve. Take extra care when the hose assemblies and the tube assemblies are being disconnected from the main control valve.

  6. Put identification marks on all of the hose assemblies, tube assemblies and electrical connectors that are connected to the main hydraulic pump. The identification marks are for installation purposes.

  7. Disconnect 16 hose assemblies (5) from the bottom side of the main control valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to prevent oil loss and keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.

  8. Disconnect two tube assemblies (6) (one on each side of the main control valve) and four hose assemblies (7) (two on each side of the main control valve) from the main control valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to prevent oil loss and keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.

  9. Disconnect electrical connector (8) from the main control valve.

  10. Disconnect two hose assemblies (9) and two hose assemblies (10) from the main control valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to prevent oil loss and keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.

  11. Disconnect 14 hose assemblies (11) from the top side of the main control valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies in order to prevent oil loss and keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.

  12. Disconnect four tube assemblies (13) from the front side of the main control valve. Put plugs in the ends of the tube assemblies in order to prevent oil loss and keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.

  13. Remove two bolts (16), the washers, the nuts, and support bracket (14) that holds tube assemblies (13) in position.

  14. Disconnect two electrical connectors 15 from the front side of the main control valve.

  15. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to main control valve (12). Remove the four mounting bolts and washers that hold the main control valve in position.

Note: Make sure that all of the hose assemblies, tube assemblies and electrical connections have been disconnected prior to removal of the main control valve from the machine.

  16. Carefully remove main control valve (12) from the machine. The weight of the main control valve is 204 kg (450 lb).
