Solenoid Valve (Proportional Reducing) - Remove and Install

Usage:

325B L 1GS

Removal Procedure

Note: The proportional reducing valve is located behind the right rear access door of the main hydraulic pump compartment. The proportional reducing valve is mounted to the pilot manifold.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.

  2. Oil will drain from the pilot manifold when the proportional reducing valve is removed. Place a suitable container under the pilot manifold in order to contain the oil.

  3. Disconnect wiring harness (2) from proportional reducing valve (1). Remove two bolts (3) and proportional reducing valve (1) from the pilot manifold.

  4. Remove four O-ring seals (4) from the proportional reducing valve.

Installation Procedure

Note: Check the condition of four O-ring seals (4) prior to installing the proportional reducing valve. If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  2. Place proportional reducing valve (1) in position in the pilot manifold.

  3. Install two bolts (3) that secure the proportional reducing valve to the pilot manifold. Tighten two bolts (3) to a torque of 4 ± .4 N·m (3 ± 0.3 lb ft).

  4. Connect wiring harness (2) to proportional reducing valve (1).

  5. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil viscosity and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the correct filling procedure.
