Counterweight - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".

  1. Remove bolts (5) and the washers. Remove baffle plate (2).

  2. Remove bolts (3). Position engine oil filter assembly (1) and support out of the way.

  3. Remove bolt (4), the washer, the nut, and the clamp from the hose for the engine oil filter assembly.

  4. Remove bolts (8).

  5. Remove bolt (7) and the washer that holds the hose for the air cleaner to the baffle plate.

  6. Remove bolts (9) and the washers.

  7. Remove baffle plates (6).

    Note: The expansion tank will be removed with the counterweight. The air cleaner can be positioned inside the frame when the counterweight is removed.

  8. Remove the cap from expansion tank (11). Cover the expansion tank (11).

  9. Remove bolts (13), the washers, and plate (12) with air cleaner (10) from the counterweight.

  10. Remove bolt (14), the washer, and the clamp from the counterweight.

  11. Remove caps (15) from the top of the counterweight (16).

  12. Install tooling (A) into holes for cap (15). Fasten a suitable lifting device to counterweight (16). Put slight tension on the counterweight with the hoist. The weight of the counterweight is approximately 750 kg (1650 lb).

  13. Remove bolts (17) and spacers (18) that hold the counterweight to the frame of the machine.

  14. Carefully remove counterweight (16) from the machine.

  15. Put identification marks on shims (19) in order to locate the shims on the frame. The shims are used for alignment of the counterweight with components in the hood. Remove shims (19) from the frame.

    Note: Make sure that all surfaces are clean prior to installing the counterweight.

  1. Put shims (19) into the original position on the frame of the machine.

    Note:

  2. Install tooling (A) into holes for cap (15). Fasten a suitable lifting device to counterweight (16). Install the counterweight onto the frame of the machine. The weight of the counterweight is approximately 750 kg (1650 lb).

    Note: Do not remove the hoist from the counterweight until Step 3 is completed.

  3. Apply 4C-5592 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of bolts (17) and on end faces of spacers (18) that are in contact with the bolts. Install the spacers and bolts that hold the counterweight in position. Evenly tighten the bolts.

  4. Install caps (15) in the top of counterweight (16). Tighten the caps to a torque of 12 ± 4 N·m (9 ± 3 lb ft).

  5. Position the clamp. Install the washer and bolt (14).

  6. Install plate (12) with air cleaner (10) to the counterweight. Install the washers and bolts (13).

  7. Uncover expansion tank (11). Install the cap onto expansion tank (11).

  8. Install baffle plates (6).

  9. Install bolts (8).

  10. Position the clamp to the original position and install the washer and bolt (7).

  11. Install the washers and bolts (9).

  12. Position engine oil filter assembly (1) and support. Install bolts (2). Tighten the bolts. Install the hose for the engine oil filter assembly, bolt (4), the washer, the nut, and the clamp. Tighten the bolt.

  13. Install baffle plate (2). Install the washers and bolts (5).

End By:

  1. Install the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".
