Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Be sure that the mating surfaces of the swing motor and swing drive are thoroughly clean and dry.

  2. Apply a thin coat of 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the mating surfaces of the swing motor and the swing drive.

  3. Fasten a lifting strap and a hoist to swing motor (4). Put the swing motor in the motor's original position on the swing drive.

  4. Install six bolts (5) that hold the swing motor to the swing drive. Tighten the six bolts to a torque of 103 ± 10 N·m (76 ± 7 lb ft).

  5. Check the condition of the three O-ring seals (6) that are used in the swing parking brake control valve. If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. Install the three O-ring seals in the valve body. Install swing parking brake control valve (1) on the swing motor (4).

  6. Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are used in the ends of seven hose assemblies (2). If any of the seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement. Connect the seven hose assemblies to the swing motor in the hose's original locations.


    NOTICE

    The swing motor must be filled with the correct oil prior to operation.

    Failure to maintain proper oil level in the swing motor may result in damage to the motor.


  7. Fill the hydraulic oil tank and the swing drive with oil to the correct level. Refer to the following publications for the correct capacity and the correct filling procedure.

    1. Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Swing Drive Oil Level - Check".

    2. Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Swing Drive Oil Level - Change".

    3. Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Refill Capacities".

  8. Start the machine, and check the operation of the swing drive. Check all hoses and fittings for leaks.
