- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Main Hydraulic System - Pressure Release" in this manual.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed. Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

---|
Failure to properly assemble parts or failure to follow established procedures can lead to damage of the parts and assembly. To avoid damage to parts, always identify and mark the parts so that they can be installed in the same location. Ensure that gear surfaces align. Never force parts during assembly. |
- Mark the position of the swing motor in relation to the swing drive so that the swing motor can be installed in the original position.
- Drain the oil from the swing drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the swing drive is
1.5 L (0.4 US gal) .Show/hide tableIllustration 1 g00544255 Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g00533539 - Disconnect seven hose assemblies (2) from the swing motor.
- Remove swing parking brake control valve (1) in order to gain access to the mounting bolts for the swing motor. Remove three O-ring seals (6) from the body of the swing parking brake control valve.
Note: One of the mounting bolts for the swing motor is located under oil level gauge tube (3). The mounting bolt can be loosened for removal of the swing motor. The bolt cannot be completely removed.
- Remove six bolts (5) and the washers that hold swing motor (4) to the swing drive.
