Assembly Procedure

1. If bearings (30) were removed, use Tool (A) to install the bearings in support (29). Install the bearings 5 mm (0.20 inch) below the surface of the support.

2. If seals (31) were removed, use Tool (A) to install the seals on each side of the bearings. Install the seals so that the lip of the seals faces away from bearings (30) .

3. Fill the bearings and the area between the seals with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease .

4. Put shaft (25) in position in the first bearing. Install key (26) in the shaft.

5. Put lever (27) in position. Push shaft (25) through the lever and into the support.

6. Tighten bolt (28) that holds the lever in position on the shaft.

7. Align the mark on the end of the shaft with the centerline of the slot in pedal (24). Install the pedal on the shaft until the space between the pedal and the support is 2 ± 1 mm (.08 ± .04 inch).

8. Tighten bolt (23) .

9. Put a washer in position on each side of the support and install shaft (22) .

10. Install pedal (15) on the shaft. Tighten bolt (21) that holds the pedal in place.

11. Put shaft assembly (20) in position in the support. Install key (32) in the shaft.

12. Put lever (18) and the bar in position on the shaft assembly and install bolt (19). DO NOT tighten the bolt at this time.

13. Put bar (16) in position on pedal (15). Install pin (17) and the cotter pin that holds the bar in place.

14. Tighten bolt (19) .

15. Install the key in shaft assembly (20). Put lever (13) in position on the shaft assembly and tighten bolt (14). Tighten bolt (19) .

Note: Spring (11) must be installed with the concave side of the spring toward shaft assembly (12) .

16. Put spring (11) and shaft assembly (12) in position in cover assembly (4) .

Note: Put clean SAE 10W oil on all parts of the detent assembly before assembly.

17. Install spring (9) in the slot in shaft assembly (12) .

18. Align the slot in plate assembly (10) with spring (9) and install the plate assembly.

19. Put springs (7) in position in plate assembly (10) with spring 9 and install the plate assembly.

20. Put a gasket on each side of plate (3). Put the plate in position on the support.

21. Align the plate assembly in cover assembly (4) with the shaft assembly in the support and install the cover assembly.

22. Install bolts (6) that hold the cover assembly in place.

23. Install the washers and housing (5) in cover assembly (4) .

24. Install the key in shaft assembly (12). Put lever (1) in position on the shaft and tighten bolt (2) .

End By: Install the governor control linkage and decelerator.
