The secondary steering system has two functions.
- If the engine stops and the machine is moving, oil will be supplied to the steering system.
- If the engine rpm is low and the machine is moving, oil flow will be increased to the steering system.
Note: The secondary steering system is an attachment. When the engine stops and the machine is moving, steering is not possible without the secondary steering system. The metering pump must have oil flow in order to operate.

Component Locations (2) Priority valve. (4) Flow switch. (5) Steering and brake pump. (6) Check valve. (7) Secondary steering pump. (8) Hydraulic tank. |
The components of the secondary steering system are steering and brake pump (5), check valve (6), and flow switch (4) .
Secondary steering pump (7) is a gear pump. The pump is driven by an electric motor. The electric motor is mounted to the main frame in front of the engine compartment.

(10) Electronic Control Module (ECM). The access panel is removed in order to show ECM (10) . |
The electronic control module (10) will control the secondary steering system. The ECM (10) is located on the right side of the machine under the cab. The ECM (10) monitors oil flow in the steering lines with flow switch (4) .
The electric motor will turn ON, if the following conditions occur.
- The ECM senses no oil flow from the pump.
- The drive shaft speed is greater than 1600 rpm.
- The directional control lever is in gear.

(11) Primary steering indicator. (12) Secondary steering indicator. |
The primary steering indicator (11) indicates that the primary steering has failed. The secondary steering indicator (12) indicates that the secondary steering system is activated. The secondary steering system will turn OFF, when the ECM senses oil flow from the pump or the machine stops.
