Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the muffler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Muffler - Remove and Install".

------ WARNING! ------

Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

Note: Put identification marks on all wires for installation purposes.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  1. Disconnect positive battery cable from the battery.

  1. Open the engine hood.

  1. Disconnect two wires (2) and (3) from alternator (1) .

  1. Loosen two bolts (4) and (6). Move the alternator toward the engine in order to relieve tension on the belts.

  1. Remove belts (5) from the alternator pulley.

  1. Remove two bolts (4) and (6) from the alternator.

  1. Remove alternator (1) from the alternator mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install alternator (1) to the alternator mounting bracket.

  1. Install two bolts (6) and (4) to the alternator. Do not tighten bolts (6) and (4) at this time.

  1. Install belts (5) to the alternator pulley.

  1. Pull the alternator away from the engine in order to tension the belts. Tighten bolts (6) and (4) to a torque of 105 N (23.5 lb).

  1. Connect two wires (3) and (2) to alternator (1) .

  1. Connect positive battery cable on the battery.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.

  1. Close the engine hood.

End By: Install the muffler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Muffler - Remove and Install".
